Scenic Painting Works

Leah Downey has worked as a scenic painter across many theatre productions, creating painted environments that support the visual storytelling of live performance. Her work ranges from large-scale backdrops and architectural flats to detailed scenic finishes and props.
 
Alongside her work as a set and costume designer, Leah regularly paints scenery for productions, collaborating with directors and creative teams to realise the visual language of a show on stage. She is experienced working quickly within production schedules and painting at scale for theatre environments.
 
Her scenic painting practice includes colour matching, texture work, ageing techniques, graphic treatments, and architectural finishes. Through paint, she creates environments that feel grounded, cohesive, and visually clear for an audience.
